My final illustration for Dominance War IV contest. Some may think it's good enough but I'm still not satisfied with it cuz I'm not skillful at drawing surroundings and background. I had time to upload this and request comments and critiques before the contest ends, but I didn't do so. It seemed silly but I just wanna see how far I can go by myself.
Anyway, it ended and I can draw something new again

From far away it was hard to tell what was going on because the focus is unclear due to the tight colour scheme. The picture didn't pop out and it isn't as attention-demanding compared to your other works.
In the fullview there's a lot of amazing details but it made the picture too busy.
A solution to make the surroundings less noticeable but still keeping the details is to lower the opacity. With a lower opacity the colours become less eye-catching and it pushes the images to the back. If some images needs to be closer than the others (i.e. the monster that is attacking the men vs. the monster to the girl or the blue beams vs. the purple swirls) then you can easily select that area, add a layer mask, and do a gradient dissolve. This is just like lowering the opacity but with this gradient only parts of the area is pushed back more to create depth in the middle grounds.
As an result with a non-vibrant surroundings it should open up the picture and it should be clear on where the focus is with a glance.
I hope this helped.
